Improved Search and Selection for Kelly Strayhorn Theater Events [Figma Portfolio Page]
In this project, we examined theatergoers’ experiences finding and choosing shows and presented our findings to our client Kelly Strayhorn Theater. Our goal was to discover whether theatergoers of traditional theater could be a potential audience to smaller, more modern theaters such as KST.
Our research consisted of conducting interviews and storyboard sessions with frequent theatergoers, and then methods such as affinity diagrams and team interpretation sessions to summarize data collected and convert our findings into an actionable solution.
Some of our interesting insights:
- People enjoyed the variety of smaller shows, which could offer more in interactivity and subject matter.
- People struggled with the harder-to-find info for smaller theaters, as opposed to the extensive reviews afforded Broadway shows.
- This combination of greater unpredictability of show content and obscurity made it difficult for theatergoers to find the specific shows they would like.

My team generated possible solutions by conducting speed-dating storyboarding sessions and then developed our prototyped solution of an improved search and selection before presenting our findings and solution to Kelly Strayhorn.
I led design and presentation efforts, prototyping our improved search solution in Figma and designing/writing the poster and script we used to present our findings to our client KST, bringing the theater's color scheme into the poster to make an appealing final report.
